Fighting Fräuleins...Our Team
LOCO Roller Derby
Low Contact (LOCO) Roller Derby is an alternative roller derby movement, which is to provide women who do not want to play aggressive, full contact roller derby a chance to participate in the sport, and train for roller derby for the fun and fitness. We practice weekly, play regularly.
At Kitchener LOCO practices, you will train for roller derby, but play bouts with modified blocking rules to reduce injury, making the sport more accessible to women of all athletic abilities. Low contact doesn't mean no contact, but can be equated to women's hockey checking (body contact is allowed, but body checking from a distance is not).
We hold regular scrimmages for any skater who passes a minimum skills benchmark (showing that they are safe skaters, aware of the rules, and able to give and receive blocking).
Kitchener LOCO is perfect for retired WFTDA skaters, inexperienced roller skaters, and anyone who wants to play for #teamfun. You will never be told you are not good enough, but you will find out how good of a skater you can be!
Fighting Fräuleins - Kitchener LOCO's Team
When you are ready (your choice + passing a minimum skills test) you are welcome to play in fun and competitive scrimmages and bouts against other teams.
Scrimmages or bouts are typically scheduled monthly between April & November.
